Etchings

Title:- Into the open
Type:- copper plate etching
Edition:- 100
Plate size:- 17cm h x 12cm w
Most of Mary George's etchings are steel-plated
copper plates, although she does occasionally
experiment with other materials, for example
zinc or solid steel.
The etching process is time-consuming,
complex and demands a high level of
care and craftsmanship at all stages.
The process has been extant for over 500 years
and reached high levels of importance and production during the
period when Hogarth and Rowlandson were active.
Like them, Mary often hand tints her prints with
watercolour.
